I called USCIS regarding this issue. Representative mentioned that once u have GC, it is your choice if you want to change jobs. There is no rule stating that you have to stick to your employer who sponsered GC for any period of time. He also mentioned that changing job after getting GC does not affect citizenship application.
BTW, I got my GC on 08/08/08.

op seems to have just lost it!
(no offense please)
dis is wat happens 2 normal beings one-by-one.. can't blame anyone.
Years and years of wait, fear, desperation, being deceived and finally followed by series of shocks called visa bulletins --> end result "it all ends-up this way".
My apologies, I thought I was making a point. The point was trying to see and realize that if USCIS was behaving with us this way it is, what would happen if it was a product selling company ? Could it do the same to its customers ? Could customers tolerate it ? Could USCIS have survived ?
But if I could not show it just ignore my thread or Admin , please delete it.

They may have been deposited, but I havent seen it clear off of my account yet, or my bank may be slow, but I do have another friend who is in the same scenario, I am guessing it should clear off my account today though.

I don't know if it is really easy to renew in US.Because i just filled the form with this link https://passport.gov.in/nri/OnlineRegistration.jsp?pocode=USAW and saved the application.I thought It'll save my details , but It looks like it sent the application to embassy. When I wanted to reprint the form it's asking the Web File No which I never received.May be I need to call them for this #.I tried to fill the form and save again. It's coming up with blank page without any Web File No.

I received my EAD card in 4 days...I don't know why this is taking so much time.

We have 8000+ members but only 200+ contributed. I have been thinking about it and here is one possible answer. If you look at the poll result about whether we should push for 485 or not, there are about 280 guys supporting this goal. Maybe almost all recurring contributions are from this group.
I did not follow the I-485 filing debate; it was sickening. I made a one time contribution. I don't think I am included in the 220 count. I think there are very few members who have made a one time payment recently and are not included in 220.
I think, the count 220 includes only recurring payments that started this month. Some persons paid before this count started.
The only useful thing we can do is to work on contributions. It is hard to figure out reasons why persons are not paying. I think it will be useful if we guess all possible reasons and work on all of them.
We should not insult any non-paying member or anyone for that matter. I still want to know
1. What is the use of a non-paying member?
2. What is lost if a non-paying member leaves?

Thank you all for information. I confirmed with our lawyer one more time
here is the response
"It is the combination of her I-485 receipt and the EAD that demonstrate her current status of adjustment applicant. If the admissions people are confused they need to talk with their foreign student advisor who should be well versed in this stuff. She is no longer an F-1 and therefore not subject to any F-1 rules
I guess it's up to the school to determine if they will allow her to finish her degree on AOS/EAD. some of you suggested ..school can make rules. We suggested to school that that other school do allow partial course load in certain situations. They say it may be true ..but they don't have that policy.
If they don't allow her..i don't see any option but to fork up 7-8K. It would be great if you can provide me an official document /link indicating she can study during AOS.
Do you see any problem if I say please go ahead and report it to INS ? I dont see any problem as long as they allow her to finish her degree.

Very Good Research. I just gave you Green.
Since there was talk of the HR 5882 being taken up in two months time in a lame duck session, I thought it might be helpful to have this on this page.

Lame Duck Sessions of the U.S. Congress
Once rare, now commonplace
By Robert Longley, About.com
Lame duck sessions of the U.S. Congress happen in even numbered years when Congress has to reconvene following the November general election to take care of unfinished legislation. Some lawmakers who return for this session lost their bids for reelection and will not be in the next Congress. Hence, they are informally called "lame duck" members participating in a "lame duck" session.
The possibility of lame duck sessions of Congress began in 1935, when the 20th Amendment1 to the U.S. Constitution2 took effect. Under this amendment, ratified in 1933, regular sessions of Congress begin on January 3 of each year, unless Congress passes a law in the previous session changing the date. Also, the terms of members begin and end on January 3 of odd-numbered years. Under these arrangements, any meeting of Congress between election day in an even-numbered year and the following January 3 is considered a lame duck session.
Why lame duck sessions are bad
Lame duck sessions are never desirable. Defeated lame duck lawmakers, knowing they will not have jobs in the new Congress, either tend to "just go through the motions" while debating and voting on remaining important legislation or, in worse cases, attempt to hinder or even damage the lawmaking process. On the state level, the legislatures of only 11 states even allow lame duck sessions.
By far the most dismal scenario for a lame duck session is whenever one of the two major political parties has taken away majority control of one or both houses of Congress from the other party, as happened after the 2006 mid-term election, when the Democrats won control of both the House and Senate from the Republicans. In these instances, with political tempers already running hot, the temptation for lame duck members to vent their frustrations by working to stall good bills, while turning bad bills into worse laws, becomes even greater.
Why lame duck sessions happen
Once rare, lame duck sessions have become all too common. The final days of the 109th Congress in November and December of 2006 became the 16th lame duck session since 1940.
The typical "target" date for the annual adjournment of each session of Congress is during the first week in October. The target adjournment date has become a total myth in recent years. The first session of the 109th Congress, for example, did not achieve final adjournment until Dec. 22, 2005.
During far too many recent years, the main reason for lame duck sessions has been Congress' failure to complete its work on the spending, or "appropriations" bills that form the basis of the annual federal budget. By law, the federal budget process3, including passage of the spending bills, begins the first Monday in February of each year and should be concluded by October 1st, the start of the federal government's Federal Fiscal Year. Failing to pass the spending bill by October 1, Congress is compelled to pass "continuing resolutions4," legislation that allows the government operate temporarily without an approved budget at the previous year's spending levels.
Lame duck sessions: some bad, some not so bad
Some sessions are not particularly productive, often because of political disputes and the difficulties of reaching legislative decisions in a post-election environment. In 1982 and 2002, for example, Congress returned after the November election in part to complete work on most of the spending bills. In each case, it failed to do so and the new Congress had to enact large continuing resolutions to fund government operations for the fiscal year already in progress.
Other lame duck sessions, such as the one held in 1980, have been more productive. On that occasion, Congress approved budget resolution and reconciliation measures, five regular appropriations bills and a continuing resolution, an Alaska lands bill, a landmark environmental cleanup "superfund" bill, a measure extending revenue sharing, a revision of military pay and other benefits, and a bill changing the appointment power of the Senate President pro tempore.

Any idea of how many number of I-140s ? May be 50000+. It looks like it might take at least an year to process these I-140s in NSC/TSC. TSC is faster when compared to NSC, where the priority dates has not been moving, at least for EB1/EB3. What do you say ?
A trivial question: Do they process I-140s based on labor filed date (priority) or I-140 filed date ?
Hopefully they will reinstate PPS for I-140 after they are done with receipting the July/Aug applications.
Good luck to everyone.
kaykay.

My wife and daughter planning to go to India next month. They do not have H4 stamping but H4 validity is there up to next year. Plan is to come back after receiving AP. I am thinking that once their AP is approved I will send their AP to India, and they will come back using that AP. Experts, do you see any problem in this. Please share your thoughts.
Thanks, Regards
If the person gets the visa stamped on the passport at the US consulate abroad, I do not see any problems re-entering.
AP is only optional. You can always get a valid US visa stamp based on the approved petition and use the H-1 visa stamp to re-enter.
I am not sure what the confusion here is:rolleyes:
this post was for specific question as to whether his spouse and child can use AP while returning from his home country. They have a valid H4 or some status now which was going to expire and he wanted them to use AP( and not get a renewal) while entering back. My post address that issue. So hope the confusion is cleared
-cheers

Please join your state chapters and participate in this all important action item.
Take a moment to think about this:
If the bills don't pass before the end of this fiscal year, then we are stuck for one more year (wishing and hoping) before any provisions pass and take effect in Oct 2009. Even if there are any provisions that take effect in Oct 2009, we have to consider the delays due to USCIS backlogs (imagine what CIR will do) and adjudication time. There is really no fun in this lifestyle of uncertainty. This is our chance to make it happen for us. Let each one of us play a key role in deciding our own future. Let's do it.

Did you have to get it in advance or did you get it on arrival?
I got this in advance. But, it does not apply to you as you have a GC and you don't need a Mexican visa.

I have not been laid off and I don't have problems finding jobs; in fact my company has asked me to search for one more person with a background similar to mine. However I have been limited by the requirements of AC21. I was toying with the idea of leaving the country; but cannot sell my primary residence and might have problems obtaining a visitor visa for re-entry (to close on the house). I was seriously considering investing in some more real estate; but am holding back due to the random AC21 denials. I want to start my own business since I finally got my EAD this year - but with all the uncertainity of AC21 case approvals, I am not willing to put personal resources into a business in this country. Currently I am working on starting a free workshop for investment in my community - which will stop if my I-485 is denied in case my former employer revokes my I-140 (and yes; I did send in the letters for AC21). I have registered my dog with therapy international and volunteer my time for various causes (cabin repair, trail maintenance, public education) and donate regularly to the fire and police - all of these will take a hit if I have to leave.
I wonder what the reporter will conclude if he/she talks to immigrants who have lost jobs and have trouble finding new projects........
Anyway, let me know if I can be of any help.
Pls email your contact information.
No anonymous members please. I got a couple of private messages willing to be interviewed but asking to be anonymous.
IV has been always on the forefront of this struggle for legal immigrants. We have also openly walked on the streets for this cause. We are well educated and not illegal. So what is the fear? Only illegals live in the shadows. I cannot understand why some people want to stay anonymous.
I cannot also understand why only a couple of people responded till now. There used to be so many threads with ideas on housing, layoffs and economy. I remember a thread where someone asked IV's plans and said that we should talk to the media. We need everyone when there is an opportunity in the national media to present our case.
